Twitter is a tool that allow people around the world to interact with others through what they call tweets. You can also use Twitter to send emails, texts and blogs. I chose Twitter because I enjoyed the idea of engaging with students that I am presently instructing or have instructed had in the past. I am an instructor at a community college so I only have student for a semester. Some students are so passionate about technology that they always ask what’s new in technology or what are you teaching this semester?

With using Twitter in the educational arena the instructor(s) could have their students, to sign up for twitter. Once the student’s have signed up they can invite you to become their friend or vice versa. They now are able to keep up with your blogs and know exactly what’s going on in your class, and can post questions or responses if they would like. Your present students can receive assignments, homework and general information provided. If a student has a question about something now they are able twitter you through an email or a message post. If you would like, you can post the answer so everyone can see, just incase others may have the same question or email that student back. This makes communication very easy for the student as well as the teacher.

I would like to mention other features that Twitter provide, you can find people, and there are different ways to find them such as browse suggestion, find friend on other networks, invite by email or find people already using twitter. They also have an option setting which allow you to view your account and change your password. The mobile option allow you to set-up your account for your mobile phone, after which there are other steps to go through then they will give you a code to text to them and you are then set-up to receive text messages through twitter and emails.

This is the home page of web tool entitled Xtranormal.

This web tool was very exciting and interesting. This tool can allow the educator to post instructions to students about an assignment or an announcement. This will work really great with online instructors. Xtranormal is a new way of writing a script but enable you to add actions. Xtranormal allow you to change text into a movie. Before my students are able to create a video, I have them to write a script, with extranormal while writing a script they will be able to provide actions with the words. There is a limit of words, but at the top of your script you have a count down to warn you. The steps you take to create a movie are as follow, first you will set up and account so that you are able to view all of your projects when you want to. Then you will choose a character or characters. Once you have decided what type of character you would like to work with the next step will be creating the environment you would like to display. It also allow you to choose different action that you want you character to do such as different camera angles, change the animations, expression, looks and points. Other actions included are placing pauses and sounds to the character. In order to add all of these actions to make your movie surreal, you will drag the action to the point of the script that you want the action to happen. In each sentence you can use as many actions as you will like . After you have typed a sentence and have reviewed it or have added an action and do not like it you are able to edit. If you do not finish your project while working you can save it and then come back to complete the project. This tool allow you to see what you have done, just click on the action button and it goes through four stages then it will allow you to play it. To make your movie more engaging you can add a sound track. You must try Xtranormal I think you will have a blast.

Create your own video slideshow at animoto.com.

This is a Sample video I created in Animoto.

I chose to explore Animoto, not only did I enjoy using this tool but I am using this tool as part of my AR project. This web- tool, automatically produce beautifully orchestrated, completely unique video pieces from your photos, video clips and music. They also have preset pictures, video clips and music available. Animoto was great but it limit you as many applications does to what you can and can’t do with the free version, but you can purchase the full version for $30, a month. And with the free version it only allow you to 30sec. of a show but it was fun to use and very user friendly.

To create a video in Animoto you go through three tabs or steps. Let me mention a few features about Animoto; allow you to upload from your computer, select from a collection or retrieve from another site. You can choose a collection of activities, travel places, effect, transportation etc., and these are presets. I also allow you to insert text to narrate the pictures or video. If you would like to change the order of the video clips or pictures to tell a story, it will allow you to do that. After you have finished with your pictures and video clips, you then have an option to add music from your computer or from a collection provided. After you have gone through those steps then you would finalize your video. Animoto also allow you to add credits at the end-of-video.

I had so much fun and I feel that you and your students would really enjoy Animoto. If you like to create slideshows, this would be worth your time to explore.
